Hynes DES is legendary in Paramount. Founded by Portuguese immigrants who came here for the local dairies, it was established in 1923 when the area was known as Hynes/Clearwater. This year is the organization’s 100th anniversary, and the City Council celebrated that at its June 13 meeting. The DES meeting hall on Alondra Boulevard has been a place to preserve Portuguese culture and heritage since 1939.The Portuguese people have celebrated the Festa Divino Espirito Santo, or Feast of the Holy Spirit, for more than 700 years. Their festival on June 25 will be the 100th town.
