According to a statement issued by the city, “the Paramount City Council considered a local Eviction Moratorium Ordinance for commercial properties at its meeting on April 7, and directed the city attorney and staff not to pursue this option given that the County, State, and Federal governments are providing various forms of assistance to small businesses at this time. The City will continue to follow regulations in this area issued by the state and County, such as Governor [Gavin] Newsom’s anti-eviction moratorium that applies to Paramount residential tenants.”
Other cities have also considered such ordinances. The city of Avalon on Catalina in recent weeks passed ordinances temporarily prohibiting residential and commercial evictions and also prohibiting residential rent increases. Seal Beach recently imposed a moratorium on residential and business evictions.
