After a natural disaster or catastrophic event, first responders, utility workers, and emergency service workers are inundated with emergencies and recovery efforts. Providing emergency preparedness in the form of an active Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program will allow Paramount residents to be more self-sufficient, which in turn lets emergency personnel attend to the recovery efforts in a timely manner.
The Public Safety CERT program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness that may affect their community. CERT members learn how to take care of themselves, their families, and their communities.
Any Paramount resident can become a certified CERT member. This involves completing a 20-hour CERT training series among other things. (You can also complete the CERT training without becoming “certified” if you just want to learn the information that is offered in the classes.)
CERT Basic Training will be at the Spane Park Learning Center, 14400 Gundry Ave. on Friday, Aug. 23, 5 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 24, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 25, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
