Pirates varsity football team drops to no. 3 in CIF Division 4

Paramount High School’s varsity football team dropped to the no. 3 spot in Division 4, according to the CIF Southern Secion’s Sept. 3 poll of 11-man teams.

First and second place in the poll were held by Villa Park and Camarillo, respectively. The seven teams ranking below Paramount were, in descending order: Palos Verdes, San Juan Hills, South Hills, Loyola, Roosevelt, Chaparral, and La Mirada.

Varsity team news

Information about the Friday, Sept. 6, game against Bakersfield was not available by editorial deadline.

As of last week, the varsity team’s season record was 1-1. None of the games were league games.

Paramount Pirates narrowly lost the Aug. 30 game against the Bishop Amat Lancers. the final score was 28-27, in Lancers’ favor. The two teams were tied 7-7 at the end of the first half and tied again at 21-21 by the end of the fourth quarter. The overtime score of 7-6 decided the contest in favor of the other team.

Junior varsity news

The junior varsity Pirates lost the Thursday, Sept. 5, game against Mira Costa. The score was 43-38, in Mira Costa’s favor.

This brought the junior varsity team’s overall season record to 0-2.

Freshman news

Pirate freshment forfeited their Sept. 5 game against Bakersfield.

The freshman football team’s season-to-date record is 0-1.
