Paramount athlete to run in national championship race on Dec. 10

Courtesy photo Alec Alec Avalos dreams to be an Olympic Athlete when he grows up and racing in the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championship is one step closer to living his dream.

Alec Avalos, an eighth-grader at Paramount Park School, is headed to Texas on Saturday, Dec. 10, to race in the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championship.

 

He will be racing a distance of 4K in the Boys 13-14 age group.

 

Alec raced at the Southern California Championship in Santa Clarita, California, on Nov. 13. He battled to the finish to get 17th Place Overall with a time of 15 minutes and 18 seconds.

 

Alec advanced to the Region 15 Championship in Las Vegas on November 20th. He received a medal for taking 18th Place Overall. He finished with a time of 14 minutes and 55 seconds and got a new personal record or PR for the 4K by 23 seconds.

 

With his performance at the Region 15 Championship, he advanced to the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championship in Texas. On December 10th, Alec will represent GTD Running Club and Paramount as he races against the Top 13-14 runners from across the Nation.

 

Alec has trained with Going The Distance Running Club in Paramount since second-grade.

 

GTD is a Youth Running Club for ages 8 to 13, but always welcomes its’ Alumni back to support its’ current runners. Coach Justin Castañeda has coached Alec in his running journey and is proud & happy to see Alec reach greater success each year.

 

Alec has ran 18:44 for 5K as a seventh-grader. He also has big goals with GTD Running Club before he heads to High School racing. Some of his goals are to complete the LA Marathon, break 5 minutes for the 1 mile and run as fast as possible for the 5K.
