Paramount High graduate Jose C. Berdeja has been named a Gates Millennium Scholar. The program, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, selects only 300 student leaders a year from across the United States. Each receives full funding for all costs—tuition, housing, etc.—to attend a four-year university. Berdeja joins 20 previous Pirates who have been selected for this scholarship over the years. Berdeja will attendi Stanford, and the City Council presented him with some Cardinal swag at its Education Month meeting in June.
