Although illegal street racing and intersection takeovers are still prominent throughout the region, Sheriff’s deputies in Paramount continue to actively respond to calls for service for these reckless crimes. Here are the results of two recent actions last month.
On a Wednesday evening at 8 p.m., deputies working street racing enforcement stopped a vehicle for reckless driving on Garfield Avenue. The driver was cited, and the vehicle was impounded with a 30-day hold.
Later that evening, at approximately 10:49 p.m., deputies responded to a possible intersection takeover call. The caller reported 50 vehicles at the intersection of Paramount Boulevard and 70th St.
Deputies from the street racing enforcement team arrived at the location at 10:51 p.m. The crowd dispersed, but several people were issued administrative citations for spectating.
Because a call for service was placed and a quick response time followed, deputies were able to stop the takeover from occurring. Spectators were actually in the process of setting up cones at the intersection.
The LASD and city officials are asking members of the the public to call whenever they see or hear a takeover, please call the Sheriff’s Department as soon as possible at (562) 623-3500.
