There are two opportunities this summer for Paramount youth ages 18 and under to receive free meals.

The HEY Summer Food Program (Healthy Eating for Youth) began on Monday, June 15 and will run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through July 24.

HEY takes place at the following schools (but is open to all PUSD students 18 years and younger):

  • Collins Elementary, 6125 Coke Ave., Long Beach
  • Los Cerritos Elementary, 14626 Gundry Ave., Paramount
  • Mokler Elementary, 8571 Flower Ave. ,Paramount
  • Wirtz Elementary, 8535 Contreras St., Paramount

HEY provides free meals and activities. Breakfast is from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., recreation time from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., and lunch from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Some meals will also be sent home.

There is no registration for this program, and students are welcome to come and go during operating hours. Los Angeles County Department of Public Health guidelines will be followed and all participants must wear masks.

Also, through Aug. 7, “Lunch at the Library” will take place at the Paramount Library. Free nutritious meals – for no-contact grab and go pickup to allow for physical distancing – will be available Tuesday to Friday from noon to 1 p.m., first come, first served, while supplies last. (No lunch on July 3.)

“Lunch at the Library” is a partnership with the LA County Department of Parks and Recreation, and is supported by the California Summer Meal Coalition and California Library Association. The program is funded this year by a California State Library grant.
